I often receive questions from ladies in our community asking me how to balance their cycles and address issues such as delayed periods, fertility, PMS, menstrual irregularity, and so on. Due to the large number of queries, I apologize for not being able to respond to each of you individually. But this post will address a few of the more popular subjects…
On this new moon, I want to share a 4-step process I’ve used to harmonize my own menstrual cycles – the very same process that has helped me conceive a child at age 41.
As you know, there are four distinct phases in a woman’s menstrual cycle: the menstruation phase, the follicular phase, the ovulatory phase, and the luteal phase (or the premenstrual phase). During each phase, there are unique things happening in a woman’s body, hormonally and energetically.
So to harmonize the cycle, we need to address each phase differently. Here’s the general protocol to use:
Menstruation Phase:
This is the time of menstrual bleeding, when the endometrial lining is loosened and discharged from the uterine wall. The priority during this phase is to encourage the complete discharge of the old endometrial lining, because without it, the new lining will not be able to build up properly, and the new cycle will be adversely affected.
Follicular Phase:
This is the time when the primary follicle is selected for growth and maturation, which is a crucial period for a woman’s fertility. The priority during this phase is to nourish yin (estrogen) to ensure the proper growth and maturation of the ovarian follicle leading up to ovulation.
Ovulatory Phase:
This is the time when the mature ovarian follicle is released and ovulation occurs. During ovulation, a significant shift happens: The menstrual cycle is transformed from the yin phase (estrogen dominant) to the yang phase (progesterone dominant). The priority during this time is to encourage the expression of the yang energy, which promotes ovulation.
Luteal Phase:
This is the time when both estrogen and progesterone begin to decline, if no conception or implantation has occurred. Due to the varying steps of the estrogen and progesterone dance, this is also a time when various PMS symptoms are likely to present themselves. The priorities at this time are to promote the free flow of energy and prepare the body for the next cycle ahead.
Whether you want to conceive, to regulate your period, to reduce menstrual pain or PMS symptoms, you can apply this general protocol to harmonize the various phases of your menstrual cycle.
The key is to have a clear understanding of your unique menstrual and health profile, and to identify the root cause of any underlying imbalances.
Then you can devise the appropriate strategies to balance your body and your cycles, using the above protocol as a guideline.
I know this is when things get tricky… It took me a long time to understand the root cause of my hormonal imbalance and bring my cycles back to harmony. It was painful to have to grope in the dark and figure everything out on my own. But I did, with trials and errors, blind faith, and a lot of tears – all things I can help you avoid.
I want to offer my knowledge and skill to help you gain clarity on your unique situation, and to restore harmony in your cycles, your body, and your life, so your journey will be a much smoother, easier, and faster one than my own.
