Yesterday there was a problem with my server – which forced me into some unscheduled maintenance, shutting down my website. In the process I almost lost all of our Cycle Harmony files, several years of hardwork, and all of the wonderful comments from the Community. I was so frightened and worried that I almost bursted out crying. Luckily, we were able to restore them and get the site back up and running.
When the crisis subsided, I reflected on the situation. I asked myself what was the lesson in all of this. And this is what came to me. Maybe you can relate…
There are things I’ve been putting off doing – things that are necessary but not enjoyable to me, such as backing up my computer, etc. I kept telling myself, “I’ll get to it some day. I have more important and pressing things to do.”
But yesterday’s event was a big wake-up call for me. The seemingly small and unimportant things are actually big and important. When neglected, they can come back to bite you in big ways. I was reminded to take care of the small things and tie up the loose ends in my life.
So I decided to slow done and take care of some small, but important things – such as making an appointment with the Apple Genius Bar so I can get my computer fixed and back up my files.
I was really lucky this time. But I’ve learned a big lesson – we can’t really forge ahead without taking care of our home base. Thank goodness!
Have you been putting things off? Are there some loose ends in your life that need to be tied up?
Don’t put them off. Take care of them right away. I hope you’ll never have to learn your lesson in a painful, costly way.
