Top 10 Alkaline Foods for Healthy Menstrual Cycles

Last updated on March 6, 2019 By Jing J. 7 Comments

Is your body overly acidic? This could be the reason for your PMS,  fatigue, mood swings, and other menstrual disharmonies. Check out the 1o best foods to alkalize your body.

top 10 alkaline foods for healthy menstrual cycles

Our body functions best in a slightly alkaline environment.

The optimum pH for our blood and body tissues is about 7.2-7.4.

Note that a pH of 0 is completely acidic, a pH of 14 is completely alkaline, and a pH of 7 is neutral.

An overly-acidic environment in the body can have negative health consequences. It affects our organs and glands, interrupting the body’s natural hormone balance, lowering our immune response, and promoting the growth of yeast, bacteria, viruses, and even cancer cells.

By alkalizing your body and maintaining an optimal pH, you can rebalance your hormones and correct many menstrual disharmonies, such as PMS, yeast infections, abnormal vaginal discharge, irregular menstrual cycles, painful periods, ovarian cysts, fibroids, weight gain, poor digestion, fatigue, acne, headaches and mood swings.

You’ll enjoy an increased energy level, stable moods, and healthy and harmonious menstrual cycles.

Top 10 Alkaline Foods

I’ve been incorporating some strongly alkalizing foods in my diet, especially while having acidic foods such as eggs, fish, meats, grains, nuts, chocolate, cheese, pasta, cookies, coffee and wine.  And I’ve noticed a big difference in how I feel throughout the day.

You too can enjoy the pleasure-giving delights of many acidic foods, while maintaining the body’s optimal pH and staying healthy and vibrant. You can do so by simply adding the following strongly alkalizing foods in your daily diet:

1. Lemons

Lemons, surprisingly, are one of the most alkalizing foods you can get. While not alkaline, lemons have a very low sugar content and high alkaline mineral content, so they actually have a strong alkalizing effect on the body.

A great way to start your day is to drink a glass of lukewarm water with a fresh squeezed lemon or lime.

2. Leafy Greens

Leafy greens such as kale, Swiss chard, spinach, mustard greens and collard greens are packed with rich vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals.

They are excellent for balancing acidic foods and alkalizing the body.

3. Cruciferous Vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and cabbage contain phytochemicals that help alkalize the body, improve estrogen metabolism, and reduce the symptoms of estrogen dominance.

4. Root Vegetables

Root vegetables such as radishes, beets, rutabaga, carrots, sweet potatoes and turnips are all highly alkalizing.

5. Garlic, Ginger and Turmeric

These spices are antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and highly alkalizing.

So why not include a clove of raw garlic, a couple of slices of fresh ginger, or a teaspoon of turmeric powder into your dishes on a regular basis.

6. Avocados

Avocados not only provide a rich source of essential vitamins, fatty acids and amino acids, they help alkalize the body as well.

7. Cucumbers and Celery

These two foods are among the most alkalizing foods. They quickly neutralize acids and aid in digestion.

8. Chlorophyll-rich Foods

Chlorophyll-rich foods, such as seaweeds, wheatgrass, spirulina and blue-green algae, purify the blood, remove toxins from the body, and boost the immune system.

A teaspoon of spirulina in my morning smoothie has become my daily ritual. What a great way to start my day!

9. Green Tea

Green tea alkalizes the body, while coffee creates acidity in the body. So why not replace coffee with a cup of fine green tea every day?

It helps calm your mood, relax your body, and sharpen your mental focus. It’s almost time for me to savor a cup. Can’t wait!

10. Water

Water is the substance that keeps everything functioning smoothly and optimally in the body. So here I want to remind you that dehydration is the main cause of acidity in the body.

Make sure you drink plenty of clean, fresh water throughout the day.

In addition to these top alkalizing foods, make sure you get all the essential nutrients your body needs. This is the foundation for a healthy body, a sharp mind, and a happy you.

Incorporating Alkaline Foods into Your Diet

The recommended alkaline-acid ratio is 80:20, which means that 80% of your daily foods are alkaline and 20% are acidic.

This is actually pretty easy to follow. I heard that the editor of the Elle Magazine lost 5 pounds in just three weeks by following this guideline.

For me, I’m not interested in losing weight. My goal is to increase my level of energy and endurance, and maintain a balanced mood and harmonious menstrual cycle. I’ve been following this guideline for about a month now, and so far I feel great!

As a matter of fact, I just ordered some pH test strips to help me monitor my pH level. Why not! I think it’ll give me added motivation to stay on track and allow me to make necessary adjustments when I fall off track.

I’ll be sharing some of my alkalizing recipes with you in the coming posts. If you have any recipes that you like, we’d love to hear from you!
