How I Recovered from Adrenal Fatigue

Last updated on November 7, 2018 By Jing J. 3 Comments

It took me about two weeks of resting and being gentle to myself to recover from adrenal fatigue. In the process, I’ve learned 5 invaluable lessons…

how i recovered from adrenal fatigue

In my previous post, I wrote about the 7 most common signs of adrenal fatigue and how I found myself in a rut of adrenal exhaustion.

I’m happy to report that I’m now over the hump, feeling energetic, vibrant and inspired again.

How I Recovered from Adrenal Fatigue

Through this experience, I’ve learned a few things, lessons I hope will be helpful for you on your own journey…

Lesson #1: Pay attention to the early signs.

And take steps to make the necessary adjustments as early as possible.

It took me about two weeks of resting and being gentle to myself to recover from the adrenal fatigue. If I had allowed it to continue on, it might have taken me much longer to recover.

According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, DO, it’s not uncommon to expect:

  • 6-9 months of recovery time for minor adrenal fatigue
  • 12-18 months for moderate adrenal fatigue
  • Up to 24 months for severe adrenal fatigue Lesson

Lesson #2: Love is the greatest healer of all.

Through this experience, I realized that I experienced adrenal fatigue because I was empty of love. I allowed fear, worry and stress to take a center role in my life.

And all these negative emotions robbed me of my precious life energy – my vitality, my joy and inspirations.

So to heal myself I needed to bring love back into my life.

  • Instead of focusing on what I didn’t have, I focused on how grateful I am for what I do have.
  • Instead of focusing on the things that I didn’t like, I focused on the things that I love.
  • Instead of acting from a place of insecurity and fear, I focused on acting from a place of enjoyment and love.

And this shift of perception has made a tremendous difference for me. Not only have energy and inspirations returned, but they’ve also come with a greater potency, and a sense of ease and serenity.

Lesson #3: Rest.

This sounds simple. But sometimes it’s all we need.

For a couple of days, I simply allowed my body to do whatever it wished. One day I slept for a good 16 hours! My body got its much needed rest and it’s happy again. So am I.

Lesson #4: Get some extra support from power herbs.

Certain herbs are known for their abilities to support the kidney adrenal functions. Among them are:

Ashwagandha/Indian ginseng

Eleuthero/Siberian ginseng

Maca/Peruvian ginseng

American ginseng

Astragalus root

Schisandra/five flavor berry

Rhodiola rosea

Licorice root

Extra B vitamins (B-complex)

You can experiment with these wonderful herbs and supplements, and see which one works best for you.

Or alternatively, you can take an adrenal formula that contains several of these herbs, for example, Gaia Herbs Adrenal Health Daily Support or 1 Body Adrenal Support Cortisol Manager.

Personally, I like Maca, American ginseng and Astragalus root. I put some Maca powder in my morning smoothies, and make chicken soups with American ginseng and Astragalus root in them.

I also started to take an organic whole food multivitamin supplement. They’ve all helped to give my body the extra support it needed to speed up the healing process.

Lesson #5: Learn to regulate your thoughts and emotions.

Every situation brings an opportunity to learn and grow.

I’m grateful for this experience because it’s helped me to see how negative thought patterns can affect my health and my life. It’s also strengthened my resolve to do a better job of regulating my thoughts and feelings on a daily basis.

It’s my intention to experience love, joy, beauty and abundance every day. And now I’m making it the highest priority – above everything else. I believe when I do so, the rest of my life will fall into place, beautifully and effortlessly.

Do you have any valuable lessons from your own journey? Please spread the love by sharing them with us! Thank you!

Hi I absolutely love your article!! It really shines the light on how unloved and uninspired i have become etc etc, but my biggest battle and the biggest reason i am suffering from adrenal fatigue is because of 6 years suffering health anxiety!!! And every single day and night despite knowing i have adrenal fatigue, my brain wants me to believe it is not that and that i am seriously ill!!! How do I accept the truth ?? I struggle every day hating how tired and abnormal i am !! I desperately crave energy and joy but its just soooo depressing!! How do I accept having this and healing this as i know it will take at least a year to recover!! I am soooo despondent and feel sooo alone!! My family and friends are frustrated with me some i have lost because of negative i am iam losing hope and i am far from loving myself!!!

Wow I know from teaching courses on trauma back in the day that if you get stuck on a certain stress response (releasing the same fight or fight chemicals regularly), you’ll keep releasing them even in not-so-stressful times, like stuck in traffic or minor wait at the restaurants. This burns you out in the long run. Self care is probably one of the best things you can do to reverse that. Great article!

You’re very right. The body needs to hit the reset button and form new habits and new patterns. Thanks for this insight!
