Believe it or not, even though there is a wide range of human emotions, we experience less than a handful on a regular basis. What are some of the emotions you experience more often than others? Where is your emotional home?
With this question in mind, I recorded my mood every day during the past menstrual cycle, using my Period and Mood Tracker.
Here’s what my chart looks like…
It seems that in the last cycle, my moods danced around a narrow band from 8-optimism to 16-peace. My emotional home resided around 12-acceptance.
Pretty stable month, emotionally. Of course I also experienced stress, frustration, sadness, and some irrational feelings in the past cycle, but I didn’t let those emotions prolong and cloud my days.
Through tracking my moods, I’ve learned that we do have the ability to choose how we feel. We may not succeed every time. But we can get better at it with practice. Practice IS the mother of skills.
You can’t improve what you can’t measure. Tracking your emotions is the first, and a crutial step to improving it.
I encourage you to track your moods for a couple of cycles. It’ll help you connect with your feelings, understand your emotional patterns, and improve your emotional wellbeing.
