Does this picture remind you of a time when you experienced a particularly harsh mood swing from PMS? You were beautiful, calm and happy, then all of a sudden you were transformed into a completely different personality. You may have asked yourself, “Who am I, really?”
Hold onto that thought, and check out my collection of fashionable women swinging their moods, far and wide. You may have an answer by then, or maybe not. But at the very least you’ll be entertained…
Last Christmas, I visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for the first time. It had a special exhibit: “Avedon Fashion 1944-2000,” featuring Richard Avedon, one of the greatest image-makers of the 20th century.
It’s said that, “he revolutionized fashion photography with his imaginative, spirited portrayals of the ‘good life’ showing beautiful women wearing extraordinary clothes in irresistible settings, as well as memorable portrayals that are both elegant and reserved.”
Maybe. But I have a secret suspicion. I get the feeling that he lived with women who had some serious PMS mood swings. And I’m not kidding. See for yourself!
Whatever! I’m moody, and I couldn’t care less…
What did he say about me? Bastard! He’d better watch out!
Who am I? Where am I? I’m totally out of it…
Piss off! Can’t you see I have my “DO NOT DISTURB” sign up?
Leave me alone! I can’t take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get out of my face! And pass my shotgun (PMS)!
I can’t stop crying… And I don’t know why…
If I were you, I’d run, and run fast… Oh, it’s me who’s running…
And I’m back. Happy and playful again… Did you enjoy the ride? Hope so, because we surely had a wild adventure. Wouldn’t you agree, honey?
Well, that’s my collection of Avedon Fashion’s moody PMS women in all their glory. Hope you had a few chuckles from this. I surely did.
Entertainment aside, I appreciate the emotional diversity and intensity portrayed by Avedon. As women, we are endowed with the propensity to feel emotions more deeply and intensely than our male counterparts. It’s a gift that brings with it blessings such as creativity, intuition and compassion.
For the most part our emotions are just as complex, rich and beautiful as the images in the photographs you just saw. But sometimes they can also take us by storm and take a toll on our lives and relationships.
Either way, this too shall pass…
PMS mood swings may be an opportunity for us to dive more deeply into the depth and richness of our feelings and the gifts of being a woman. Perhaps we can experience and express them in different ways if we compose them, frame them, and look at them differently. Just a thought…
