My Relationship with the Moon

Last updated on March 23, 2018 By Jing J. 6 Comments

Tonight, for those of us living in North America, we will be able to witness a total lunar eclipse – the first lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice in 372 years. Wow! What a special time! Since I may not witness another one in my lifetime, I plan to stay up and soak up this powerful lunar energy…

I always feel a special connection with the moon. For one, it affects my cycles and my moods. I often find myself going through the mini-seasons every month with the waxing and waning of the moon. Since I reset my cycle, I now menstruate at the New Moon (“winter”). My energy rises in the “spring” until it reaches its peak at the Full Moon (“summer”), and gradually declines in the “fall” until the next New Moon.

What’s more, the moon always gives me a deep connection with my feminine – the source of my creativity, intuition and renewal. To me it symbolizes the cycles of life and death, creation and destruction. It reminds me that life moves in cycles, though I sometimes wish it would move in a straight line. Rising and falling, up and down, there is natural rhythm to it. It’s taught me to ride with it, rather than against it.

Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, the darkest of the dark. It represents rebirth and a chance for new beginnings. With the total lunar eclipse, its energy just gets so much more potent.

It is a great time to plant seeds, reflect on the passing year, and set our intentions and goals for the coming year. I just wrote down my goals for 2011. It was amazing to see how much had manifested since the last one, and how much is still unfolding in front of my eyes…

What’s your relationship with the moon? How are you going to spend the Winter Solstice?

It’s true. Sometimes I feel tired at full moon and calm on the new moon, depending where I’m during my menstrual cycle as well as what’s going on in my life at that time 🙂

Yes new moon is the darkest of the dark – time to stay still, tune in, rest and renew. The spring is again around the corner…
