Our cycles have the capacity to be our spiritual teacher.
Through them, we are reminded that “life moves in circles”, and that this time will pass…
Spring will come again, as will the darkness of winter. It is a great hope when we are in the depths, and a reminder to stay grounded when surfing the crest of a wave.
Each month, we pass through this cycle, as does the moon: waxing, full, waning and new. And with this cycle, we have an opportunity for ritual. To let go – as we do blood – and to set intentions at new moon, creating the space to envision. To start on projects as she waxes; to celebrate how far we’ve come at full moon and, as she wanes, to withdraw again to create the space to dream.
In addition to the spiritual element, our moon cycles create an opportunity to regulate our energy, maintaining the balance of giving out and receiving. The waxing and full moons are outward focused – like their archetypal counterparts, the maiden and the mother – generously sharing their love and gifts. The waning and new moons are inward focused – like their archetypal counterparts, the enchantress and the crone – time to received, to take, to restore oneself.
My longing is to grow this spiritual and physical connection to the moon cycle by creating and sharing rituals together. Maybe you want to set aside time as each change of the moon happens, or maybe just at new or at full moon. Whichever it is, do join on this journey and share your deep inner wisdom with your moon sisters.
I dream of sisters across the world sharing rituals throughout the moon cycle each month, whether alone or by setting up local groups. Everywhere I go, I hear the longing for this, bubbling up deep from the soul of woman.
Come and join us. Let’s honor the natural rhythms of our menstrual cycles together!
I have a beautiful group of soul sisters, raising our kids together. We’d like to start some moon rituals as our oldest girls are nearing the start of their menstrual cycles. I’d like to be doing something together before we have the first girl bud…so I greatly appreciate this post!
Thank you for leading the way, Jing. This is my first menstrual cycle since the birth of my baby, and I want to start honoring my cycle through divine feminine wisdom. I appreciate what you have shared. I too dream of moon sisters celebrating this special time each month. Your influence is certainly felt in this universal consciousness. Peace to you.
Hiranya, oh thank you! I’m sorry I usually realize the author, but this time I read it on my tiny phone 😉
Not to worry, Kate. 🙂 I’m just delighted to hear it chimes with you too. I think I have been exploring this practice fits bout 3-4 years now; it’s so exciting to realise I’m not alone in this, and share the wisdom and journeys of other women too. Please join the group and share your thoughts and ideas for inspiration. Id love to celebrate in community! Who knows – maybe one day, we could do something over Skype/oovoo or something!
This is great Jing. Thank you for this great inspiration. I feel so intune with the moon cycles. I appreciate your suggestions of how I can harness this lunar power to help change myself.
Kate, the credit goes to Hiranya 🙂 It’s a wonderful reminder for all of us to deepen our connection with our own cycles and the moon cycles. I feel stronger already knowing that many of us feel this magical connection from all round the world! To the new moon dear!
