A feeling of anxiety woke me up early this morning with thoughts of unfinished tasks and pending projects flying through my mind. I could not fall back to sleep again. So I got up and meditated, contemplating on what’s going on…
Everything seems to be in a state of flux, leaving me feeling utterly uncertain, and at times overwhelmed.
- There are so many tasks at hand. It seems that when I focus on one, I neglect the others.
- Support that once was here seems unavailable at the moment.
- And people who used to be close seem to have become distant.
My tendency is to resist a disquieting experience like this because it makes me feel small, incompetent and overwhelmed.
During the meditation, though, my inner wisdom asked me to welcome it.
So I let go of my resistance, focusing on the experience itself – the sensations in my body, and the thoughts and feelings that emerged from them.
Slowly my body opened up. So did my mind and my perception of the entire experience.
The resistance melted away…
I find that when I face life’s challenges with resistance, I tighten up and my existence becomes small, narrow and shallow. But when I take a step back and welcome whatever experience I’m facing at the moment, it’ll inevitably change and dissolve in front of my eyes.
Tao De Ching says: “Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water. Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass it. The soft overcomes the hard; the gentle overcomes the rigid.”
No matter what challenge you’re facing right now – whether it’s the ups and downs of your daily life, the pains that you experience during menstruation, or the unpleasant emotions that surface during PMS – try not to resist it. Try to welcome it and see what happens…
On this full moon, I want to share with you my prayer:
May we be as soft, gentle and strong as water. May we learn the path of non-resistance to dissolve any hardness and obstacles on our journeys to heal, to grow, to love and to light up the world around us…
P.S. Check out my full moon ritual with Goddess Sekhmet – the Egyptian goddess of the strong and mighty – to help you dissolve any challenges and obstacles that stand on your way in the coming cycle…
