My Moon Time Ritual March 19, 2011

Last updated on March 23, 2018 By Jing J. 5 Comments

Traditionally the moon time is a sacred time for women. Moon is the weaver of tides and a woman’s cycles follow the rhythm of that weaving. If honored, the moon time (especially the full moon and the new moon) can be an opportune time for women to connect with, and renew, our gifts of beauty, fertility, intuition and creativity. For this reason, women in many cultures have used moon time rituals to release the old energy in their bodies and to prepare themselves for receiving the new energy of the next moon cycle.

Today the Moon is at its perigee, closest to earth, approximately 31,000 miles closer to earth than when it’s in apogee, its farthest point. Geoff Chester, of the US Naval Observatory, calls today’s lunar phenomenon a super perigee moon. Perigee moons are about 14% larger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon’s orbit. Tonight’s moon will actually appear larger and brighter than any in 18 years.

Given this special time, this morning I decided to tap into this powerful “super moon energy” and performed my own moon time ritual.

First, I ran a hot bath, lit some candles, and put a few drop of lavender essential oil into a burner. The smell of lavender began to infuse into my bathroom. I couldn’t help but inhale a full, deep breath. Mmm, it felt so good…

Then I dissolved a handful of BATHERAPHY minerals into the hot tub. It’s said that many of its natural minerals are similar to those found in some of the world’s most famous hot springs and spas. I don’t know if that’s true, but it does help me to relax tired muscles and bathe away aches and pains. I love it!

While relaxing in my own “hot spring,” I scrubbed my face with BURT’S BEES Citrus Facial Scrub. I love its rich, lush orange smell, and how it feels on my skin. I followed with a delicious Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry facial mask from PANGEA ORGANICS.

Then I closed my eyes and began to relax into the warm caress of the mineral water. You know what it felt like? It felt like returning to my mother’s womb, so warm, so safe, so loving…

This sent me out and about for a while on a wonderful journey. But don’t ask me where I went. Every woman needs her secrets…

About 20 minutes later, I reluctantly woke myself up from “my mother’s womb.” I could have stayed there for much longer, but longer baths sometimes make me dizzy.

So I got up and began to prepare for my own oil massage.

I mixed a few drops of lavender oil with a generous amount of sweet almond oil, and massaged it all over my body. It made my skin so moist and supple! I really did feel as if I was a newborn baby fresh out of my mother’s womb.

And next? While sipping a cup of raspberry tea, I decided to make a collage on this special super moon day. I gathered some recent magazines and brought out a big piece of paperboard, scissors and some glue.

“Goddess” is the word that popped into my head today. I didn’t know why, and I didn’t put too much thought into it. I just flipped through the magazines and cut out the images that spoke to me…

Wala! This is what’s emerged for my Super Moon Collage.

“I thank you God for this most amazing day; for the leaping green spirit of the trees and a true blue dream of a sky; and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, and which is yes.”

This is truly how I feel at this moment, during this special moon time: to dream, to connect, to laugh, to create, and to discover the radiant goddess within me.

What are your feelings and thoughts on this super moon day?
