I light candles and meditate with the moon during my cycle. The main focus of the activity is to loose touch with reality and misconceptions about the female body and the menstrual cycle, and to get in touch the deepest part of my soul; my feminine power.
I close my eyes and I usually do a self guided imagery meditation. It leads my mind to come up with wonderful stories I had no idea I could come up with.
During my last cycle my mind showed me a beautiful story about two Native American girls who have no other names than Dolphin Girl and Wolf Girl, that were best friends torn apart by their shape shifting abilities of their respective animals.
At the end of the story I saw a dolphin and a wolf howling at the moon together, awaiting the day they will meet again.
Things like this started out silly, but over time they have helped me get in touch with my creative side as well as my spiritual side. I think it’s absolutely great that women come up with menstrual rituals. It’s a wonderful experience.
Thanks for these wonderful ways of celebration! I’m so glad that other women do similar things. I have celebrated the moon ever since I began menstruating. I feel its power so strongly.
Sometimes I light candles and sit in stillness, or in music, and meditate on being a woman. I try to really feel the moon, and to really feel my body.
This is a good one when it’s overcast and I can’t see the full moon. But my favourite one is when I can see the full moon – I go outside and sit on the ground.
I bathe myself in the moonrays and sing with the moon. I concentrate on the connection between the moon and myself, and feel how purifying and strengthening this link is. These moon celebrations leave me feeling whole, and fill me up until the next one.
