In the past I never really honored or celebrated my menstrual cycles. Perhaps growing up, I was given the impression that it wasn’t a big deal. As I began to immerse myself with the histories, myths and cultures around menstruation, however, I couldn’t help but realize how important it is to pause for a moment and to honor, embrace and
The most important passages in our lives as a woman are marked by the blood mysteries. The first menstruation marks our passage into the womanhood. Pregnancy and childbirth mark our entrance into motherhood. And menopause marks our transition into the “crone” – the wisdom stage in our lives. In addition, our menstruation every month reminds us of the regenerative and reproductive cycles of our bodies.
In many ancient traditions, a woman’s womb symbolizes her power to create, to regenerate, and to renew, and it’s the source of her feminine power.
When we are connected with our feminine power, we live in harmony with ourselves, in our relationships, and with our environment. We walk in beauty, self-confidence, love and peace.
When we are disconnected with our own feminine power, we experience pains and disharmony in our lives. PMS and menopausal symptoms are examples of such disharmony.
Menstrual rituals are a great way to connect with, honor and summon the deepest source of power within us. Those rituals are especially powerful when conducted around a new moon or a full moon, when the lunar energies are the most potent.
I’ve incorporated several simple rituals around my menstruation. They’ve helped me stay centered, embrace my own beauty and sensuality, and connect with my inner truths. Menstruation has now become a sacred, fun and celebrative time for me. In fact, now I very much look forward to my menstruation, quite a departure from the dreadful feelings I’d experienced in the past.
In my next posts, I’ll share with you the ten benefits of menstrual moon rituals, and several simple ways to create your own rituals to help discover the radiant goddess within you.
Cool! I didn’t know it was an extra special full moon in that sense!
Great stuff. As you know, I love anything related to rituals. It definitely makes an idea more concrete by bringing into the realm of action.
I also wanted to commend you on the fact that this period tracker also has a moon cycle tracker! Genius! I have a period tracker on my phone and a moon tracker, but they are 2 separate apps, and it gets annoying going back and forth. THANK YOU!! 🙂
That was exactly what I was thinking when I created the period tracker — to have it synced with the moon phase. Glad you love it! Tomorrow’s full moon is especially. It’s the mid-autumn festival in China. People get together to eat moon cakes and celebrate the oness – of the family and life. I’ll do a little ritual to honor the full moon tomorrow 🙂
Great article! I am one that realized a few years back the affect my cycle has on me. I look forward to it because I feel as though everything works properly. It’s the best time for me to accomplish goals and create. I’m glad there are other women in the world who get it…
Michelle, I’m glad you enjoy this article. It’s so delightful to hear that you actually look forward to your cycle and see it in such a positive light. It’s very refreshing! I hope more and more women will join us! Thank you for sharing.
