2017 has an air of generosity about it so why not indulge a little? I suggest you find a little time to yourself and celebrate your relationship with yourself. This is after all the most important relationship in your life.
Picture the scene:
You’re snuggled up with a glass of wine, some chocolate and mellow tunes are floating through the air. You’re all alone, leaning back in your chair listening and savouring the moment. Bliss.
Now imagine you met yourself as a stranger. What would you like about yourself? How would you show appreciation and gratitude to yourself?
- Write down something you like about the way you look.
- Write down something you like about the way your mind works.
- Write down something you like about how you relate to others.
Sitting quietly you can now have a conversation with yourself. Tell yourself what you admire and like about yourself. Never mind any negative stuff, that isn’t needed here today. Just focus on how great you are, what your strengths and abilities are.
You can also consider these points:
- What are your greatest achievements?
- What are the greatest obstacles you have overcome?
- What are your greatest ambitions?
Spend a while noting things in your journal about how you feel and think. Your journal is your mirror. You can read it again whenever you need to and delve deeper into issues you’ve written about.
Now see if you can feel some appreciation and gratitude for who you are and the path you’ve walked to get to here and now. You are a success story, know that. Feel it and celebrate it.
You may want to consider writing a few key points on a post-it and put it somewhere prominent for you to read every day.
Cultivate your relationship with yourself, stop every now and then and ask yourself what you really want, where you really want to be. Learn to listen to yourself. When you know the answers you’ve got your direction and you know what you’ve got to work towards.
Investing in your relationship with yourself is a good thing to do. From it you may find an increased sense of self-worth, a greater sense of security and a more easy-going attitude. Growing in confidence and being comfortable in one’s own skin is a very liberating way of being.
You deserve it. Love yourself.
