The new moon marks a void in the darkest time of the year. This is a time of absence, death and stillness. It’s a time of withdrawal into the deepest self and shedding what no longer serves me. Just as the tree has shed her leaves and stands cold and barren in the night, I stand empty and content by her side. I let go and am filled with peace.
This is my meditation for the new moon. This is what I sense, and it is what holds meaning for me at this time of year.
Having meditated on this, I look back to the last new moon and read the intentions I set at that time. The ones I have accomplished, I tick off. The ones I haven’t, I reconsider – do I want to take this forward? Do I want to let it go?
Then I move on to setting my intentions for the next new moon – things I’d like to see manifest in my life. For example…
My work-life balance is consolidated.
My yoga classes are full.
I am rested and calm.
I am loved, healthy and successful.
I choose an affirmation to take with me into the next few weeks. Personally I prefer something simple and practical so I can measure my progress and success later.

Above is an example of my moon journal. It has given me a deeper understanding of myself, my goals, and where I spend my energy. I keep a moon journal for the new moons and full moons throughout the year, and I have found it an empowering tool for self development.
Meditating can be a challenge, especially in hectic and demanding times. Many people try meditation but then give it up because it requires too much, and too often.
Meditating with the moon can help overcome this obstacle because it only requires a moment twice a month. Yet it can become a deeply personal companion throughout the year – by reminding us of our goals and dreams, and by motivating us to take steps each month to realize them.
That’s why I created Moon Journal for 2017 to share with you. Whether you’re looking to start a regular meditation practice or expand your existing one, it’s a great tool for you.
The Moon Journal includes 24 meditations and affirmations for each new moon and each full moon in 2017. It also has space for you to set your own intentions and dreams.
Based on the moon phases and the wheel of the year, and with beautiful illustrations, this meditation companion can help you tune into specific seasonal energies while staying grounded in the present moment. It’s a perfect loving gift for yourself or a friend to create a healthy, happy and fulfilling year ahead!
P.S. You can get a copy of the Moon Journal is at Createspace or on Amazon.
